Situation at a glance

On August 7, the United States’ renewed blockade was described as disrupting dry-bulk crossings, and a separate event reported that no oil tankers had loaded at Iran’s Kharg Island for a week. By August 9, U.S. Central Command had reported redirecting 53 commercial vessels; Iran said the Strait would remain closed until the United States met six demands. On August 12, the United States and Iran extended a ceasefire by 60 days, while Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said its Hormuz policy remained unchanged; on August 30, events described U.S. strikes on Iranian missile launchers in the Strait and IRGC missile launches at U.S. vessels. On September 7, Iran and Oman were reported preparing and agreeing on a shipping corridor, as Iran restricted International Atomic Energy Agency access to nuclear facilities and a U.S. official said the Strait was under Navy control. Kpler’s September 8 report, “Kpler reports sharp drop in Strait of Hormuz shipping,” sits alongside the October 17 headline “US military says Strait of Hormuz remains open as Iran blockade continues.” The October 18 headline “Trump says Iran war will end quickly, touts strikes on Tehran nuclear sites” attributes to Donald Trump a claim about the war’s duration.

Assessment

These events establish a confrontation over passage involving U.S. maritime pressure, Iran’s stated conditions, military action, and Oman’s corridor diplomacy. Reports differed on whether the corridor agreement had been reached or was still being finalized; they do not establish that it became operational. The September 7 U.S. control statement was disputed by Iranian officials, and reports of Iranian maritime-zone measures, vessel attacks and withdrawals, and sharply reduced shipping show that the statement alone does not establish uncontested control or practical access. Nor do the reports establish consistently safe passage. The reported ceasefire extension does not establish that hostilities ended; reports described renewed attacks by early September. The October 18 headline attributes a claim to Trump rather than establishing that the war had ended.

A retained time step

This edition freezes the complete served membership and analysis available through its UTC cutoff. Later repairs or identity changes do not rewrite what this edition showed.

Stories, Events, and cast

Stories are reporting clusters. Events are coded occurrences within that reporting. The cast contains 1,993 canonical people and organizations linked to the retained evidence.

Typed connections

Story-to-Event edges identify supporting reporting. Entity-to-Event edges identify recorded actor or target participation. Mentions and analytical roles stay visibly distinct from recorded participation.

Core, precursor, and continuation labels organize the reading. They do not by themselves establish causation. Collapsed graph groups and paginated evidence change presentation only; counts use the complete retained edition.
