VBSA Bill won’t change status of state-affiliated universities

On 2026-05-20, India's Ministry of Education told the parliamentary committee reviewing the proposed Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan (VBSA) Bill that the law would not alter the status or functioning of state universities. The ministry also said the bill would supplement, rather than replace, state governments in higher education regulation, in written replies submitted to the committee in New Delhi.
