Uganda imposes foot-and-mouth disease quarantine, closes livestock markets for one month

On 2026-05-05, Ntungamo District authorities in Uganda imposed a one-month quarantine and closed livestock markets to contain a foot-and-mouth disease outbreak. The directive immediately halted trade in cattle, goats, sheep, and pigs and also banned movement of animal products such as milk, meat, and dung across the district.
