On 2026-05-21, Afghanistan inaugurated the fifth section of the Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif railway in Balkh province. According to Pajhwok, the 70-kilometre section includes 30 kilometres of branch lines, five stations, and a loading capacity of 50 wagons, and is expected to improve transport and export of commercial goods.
