Ursula von der Leyen rejects Trump auto tariff threats; EU urges US to stick to deal

On 2026-05-05, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen rejected President Donald Trump’s threat to raise tariffs on EU-made cars and urged the United States to stick to the existing EU-U.S. tariff deal. The EU said the agreement should remain a 15 percent all-inclusive tariff rate, following talks in Paris and remarks at the EU-Armenia summit in Yerevan.
