India bans exports of raw and refined sugar effective immediately

On 2026-05-13, India prohibited exports of raw, white and refined sugar with immediate effect until September 30 or until further orders. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the policy was shifted from "restricted" to "prohibited" amid domestic supply considerations. The ban does not apply to exports to the European Union and the United States under existing quota arrangements.
