Taipei launches first negative-pressure smoking rooms

On 2026-05-07, Taipei introduced its first five negative-pressure smoking rooms and designated more than 100 outdoor smoking areas across the city as part of a smoke-free initiative. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an called it a milestone in the local government's efforts to promote a smoke-free city, with Ximending set to become a smoke-free zone on June 1.
