Standard Chartered arranges $2.33 billion funding for Tanzania railway

On 2026-04-29, Standard Chartered Bank arranged $2.33 billion in funding for two sections of Tanzania's planned railway linking Dar es Salaam with Mwanza, according to the bank and minister Makame Mbarawa. The financing will support construction and modernization of the Standard Gauge Railway, which is intended to connect the port of Dar es Salaam to western growth corridors and neighboring states.
