On 2026-05-06, South Africa said preliminary tests showed the Andes strain of hantavirus in a passenger evacuated from the MV Hondius cruise ship. Swiss health authorities separately said another passenger was hospitalized in Zurich with hantavirus after traveling on the same cruise.
