New York State Assembly passes sex offender risk bill for law enforcement

On 2026-05-08, the New York State Assembly passed Assembly Bill 89-30 with unanimous support in Albany. The bill would require the state to use risk assessment tools and recidivism statistics to better determine sex offender reoffending risk and to report recommendations to the governor and Legislature every five years.
