Prescribed burn sparks 1,500-acre wildfire southeast of Bend

On 2026-05-08, spot fires from a prescribed burn in Deschutes County, Oregon ignited the Pine Mountain Fire, which officials declared a wildfire at 4 p.m. The fire had burned about 1,500 acres about 14 miles southeast of Bend. Smoke was reported visible from Highway 20, Bend, and the Newberry Caldera, and additional firefighting resources were called in.
