Paraguay Health Ministry meets provincial authorities to monitor hantavirus cases

On 2026-05-08, Paraguay's Ministry of Health met with provincial authorities to monitor hantavirus cases and coordinate surveillance nationwide. The meeting reviewed the situation following the MV Hondius incident in the south of the country and reiterated the need to intensify epidemiological monitoring and alert health teams for suspected cases. Officials said 42 hantavirus cases had been notified so far this year and 101 confirmed since the start of the season.
