WHO says Ebola contained worldwide, risk high regionally

On 2026-05-20, the World Health Organization said its Emergency Committee in Geneva concluded that the Ebola outbreak met the criteria for a public health emergency of international concern. WHO said the outbreak centered in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda had 51 confirmed cases in DRC and two confirmed infections in Kampala, with the regional risk assessed as high and the global risk as low.
