Iran seeks India’s role in West Asia peace, proposes new Hormuz shipping framework

On 2026-05-13, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi said in New Delhi that Tehran and New Delhi were working on allowing safe passage for more India-linked vessels through the Strait of Hormuz and that Iran welcomed India's help on West Asia peace efforts. He also said Iran was developing a new service-and-payment-based framework for merchant vessels transiting the strait.
