Iran’s new Hormuz strait authority discloses a “controlled maritime zone”

On 2026-05-21, Iran's newly created Persian Gulf Strait Authority said in a post on X that a "controlled maritime zone" would apply in the Strait of Hormuz. It said transit through the area would require prior coordination and authorization from the authority, effectively imposing new administrative controls on passage through the strait.
