Canada’s NDP uses “guillotine” to overhaul access-to-information law

On 2026-05-08, British Columbia government house leader Mike Farnworth used a time allocation motion in Victoria to end an all-night debate and advance Bill 9, which would weaken the province's Freedom of Information Act. The move overrode a B.C. Conservative attempt to delay the bill and was backed by independent MLAs Elenore Sturko and Amelia Boultbee.
