Singapore passes law requiring government approval for major media acquisitions

On 2026-05-07, Singapore Parliament passed amendments to the IMDA Act requiring Infocomm Media Development Authority approval for acquisitions of 30 per cent or more in key media entities. The new rules also give the minister power to order structural separation of a regulated media entity as a last resort. The measures are aimed at regulating ownership and control of newspapers and broadcasters.
