Greece introduces relief measures for debtors, protecting primary residences

On 2026-05-07, Greece moved to implement new debtor relief measures through changes to its Out-of-Court Settlement Mechanism. The measures expand primary residence protection, allow debtors to repay the value of their home while keeping ownership, and lower the debt threshold to 5,000 euros so more than one million smaller-liability debtors can apply.
