EHRC says single-sex toilets must exclude transgender people

On 2026-05-21, the Equality and Human Rights Commission issued an updated code of practice for England, Wales and Scotland saying single-sex toilets and changing rooms must exclude transgender men and women. The guidance says providers allowing trans people into services aligned to their lived gender may no longer describe them as single sex and could face legal challenge.
