Centre tells Supreme Court Sabarimala verdict relies on male superiority

On 2026-04-09, the Government of India, through Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, told the Supreme Court of India that the 2018 Sabarimala verdict rested on an assumption of male superiority. The Centre backed restrictions on the entry of women of menstruating age into the Kerala temple while the court heard petitions on discrimination at religious sites.
