Connecticut passes law to curb ICE powers

On 2026-05-06, Connecticut lawmakers advanced legislation that would impose new limits on U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement officers and other federal authorities operating in the state. Governor Ned Lamont announced he plans to sign the bill, which would also allow lawsuits against federal agents and add civil and criminal penalties for certain conduct. The law would additionally bar law enforcement officers from wearing facial coverings or masks in most cases and require badges and name tags.
