On 2026-05-05, Burundi state-owned telco Onatel signed a US$5.9 million contract with PAFEN Burundi to deploy 4G service in 92 underserved rural communities. The 18-month project is expected to extend mobile internet connectivity to more than 372,000 people, including schools and health facilities.
