Canada elections chief calls for reforms targeting misinformation

On 2026-05-07, Elections Canada Chief Electoral Officer Stéphane Perrault told the House procedures committee in Ottawa that Bill C-25 should be amended to explicitly target misinformation that undermines trust in the electoral process. He said the law should go further in addressing falsehoods spread to weaken confidence in election results.
