Israeli custody abuses Gaza-bound aid flotilla activists, including Austrian detainees

On 2026-05-21, Israeli authorities allegedly subjected detained Gaza-bound Global Sumud aid flotilla activists to electric shocks and other abuse while transferring them to Ashdod Port and holding them in custody. Adalah said at least three activists were hospitalized and dozens more suffered suspected broken ribs and breathing difficulties. The reporting also said female detainees had their headscarves forcibly removed.
