British Steel

British Steel Limited is a long steel products business owned by Chinese company Jingye Group. It was founded in 2016 with assets acquired from Tata Steel Europe by Greybull Capital, before being acquired by Jingye Group in 2020. The primary steel production site is Scunthorpe Steelworks, with rolling facilities at Skinningrove Steelworks, Teesside. In May 2026, Keir Starmer announced new legislation that would empower the government to nationalise British Steel, subject to a public interest test being met.
