WHO approves first malaria treatment for infants

On 2026-04-26, the World Health Organization announced prequalification approval for artemether-lumefantrine, the first malaria treatment designed specifically for newborns and infants. The WHO said the medicine meets international standards of quality, safety and efficacy and is intended to reduce dosing errors and toxicity risks in young children.
