Major I-95 bridge project over Lake Marion breaks ground

On 2026-04-06, the South Carolina Department of Transportation broke ground on a $490 million project to replace the I-95 bridges over Lake Marion near Santee, South Carolina. The project will replace the existing bridges, widen the roadway from two to three lanes, and add shoulders and a shared-use path on a critical segment of I-95. Officials said the corridor carries more than 39,000 vehicles per day and is nationally and regionally important.
