Government imports refined oil from alternative sources to ensure supply

On 2026-04-14, the Government of Bangladesh said it was importing refined fuel from alternative international sources to maintain national gasoline supply after disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz and crude shortages at Eastern Refinery Limited. The ministry said cargoes were being sourced from China, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and India, and that a request was also made to Saudi Aramco for a Murban cargo.
