Taiwan passes defense budget signaling commitment, US official Paparo says

On 2026-04-22, US Indo-Pacific Command Admiral Samuel Paparo said Taiwan's passage of a proposed NT$1.25 trillion special defense budget signaled commitment to self-defense. Speaking in remarks reported by the Taipei Times, he said it was very important that Taiwan fund its own defense and expressed faith in Taiwan's willingness and capability to defend itself.
