Bucharest to receive nearly €266 million EIB loan to upgrade tram network

On 2026-04-22, the European Investment Bank said Bucharest would receive nearly €266 million to upgrade its urban tram network. The financing will renovate about 50 kilometers of track, add new tram vehicles, and upgrade depots for a network serving around 500,000 people a day, with works scheduled for completion by 2030.
