DKI Highway extension plan revived in West Hawaii

On 2026-05-01, the Hawaii Department of Transportation revived plans to extend the Daniel K. Inouye Highway in South Kohala, westward from Mamalahoa Highway to Queen Ka‘ahumanu Highway on Hawaii Island. The department said it is working with the Federal Highway Administration to seek federal funding for the roughly 10.5-mile project.
