France passes law to make Holocaust and other restitution easier

On 2026-04-19, the French Parliament unanimously passed a law in Paris to make restitution of objects looted from former colonies easier. The legislation sets procedures requiring requests to come from a state and to be reviewed by a bilateral scientific committee, following President Emmanuel Macron's earlier pledge to return cultural items seized from Africa.
