Canada passes new border crime-fighting law expanding police powers

On 2026-04-04, the Government of Canada granted Royal Assent to the Strengthening Canada’s Immigration System and Borders Act in Ottawa. The law expands border and immigration enforcement powers, including Canada Border Services Agency authorities, Coast Guard security patrols, and new anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing measures.
