On 2026-04-08, Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed House Bill 2 into law in Montgomery, officially redesignating the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America” for all official state purposes. The law requires state and local agencies and employees to use the new name in official business, taking effect Oct. 1.
