Sri Lanka energy minister resigns over coal import days after no-confidence vote

On 2026-04-17, Sri Lanka’s President’s Office said Minister of Power and Energy Kumara Jayakody and ministry secretary Udayanga Hemapala resigned from their posts in Colombo. The resignations were said to facilitate an independent investigation by a Special Presidential Commission into coal imports by the state-owned Lanka Coal Ltd.
