Protesters block Karakoram Highway in Pakistan’s Diamer-Bhasha dam unrest

On 2026-04-06, land-affected communities protesting the Diamer-Bhasha Dam blocked sections of the Karakoram Highway in Diamer district, Pakistan-occupied Gilgit Baltistan. The demonstration, organized by the Diamer-Bhasha Dam Land-Affected Committee, had continued for five days in Chilas and Thore over non-implementation of an earlier agreement with the federal government. Protesters also warned they could march toward the dam site if demands were not met.
