India Supreme Court rules right to vote and contest not fundamental rights

On 2026-04-10, the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi stated that neither the right to vote nor the right to contest an election is a fundamental right. The bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan made the observation while hearing an election dispute involving the Management Committees of District Milk Unions in Rajasthan.
