Somalia and China move to deepen security cooperation

On 2026-04-20, Somalia’s Minister of Internal Security Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail hosted China’s Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu and a Chinese embassy delegation in Mogadishu. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral security cooperation, including support for Somali security forces, counter-extremism efforts, and demining assistance. The meeting was attended by senior Somali officials and focused on continued Chinese support for Somalia’s security agenda.
