Unknown substance exposure reported at Mohawk Prison in Rome

On 2026-04-05, an unknown substance exposure occurred at Mohawk Correctional Facility in Rome, New York, after an envelope containing paper saturated with the substance was brought into the prison. Three correctional officers and two National Guard members were exposed and taken to local hospitals, with one correctional officer later reported in critical condition.
