Stolen property tax checks hit Napa County via mail scam

On 2026-04-16, criminals allegedly stole and altered dozens of property tax checks mailed to the Napa County Tax Collector, in a check-washing fraud affecting between 30 and 50 payments. Officials said the stolen checks totaled between $1 million and $2 million and that an investigation was underway.
