Nigeria opts out of IMF $50bn support, calls for aid for vulnerable African nations

On 2026-04-17, Nigeria’s finance minister Wale Edun said in Washington, DC that the government had no immediate plans to seek IMF financial assistance or an external bailout. He also urged the IMF to speed assistance for vulnerable African countries that may need support from a proposed $50 billion package.
