Kenya’s Ruto cuts VAT from 16% to 8% for three months

On 2026-04-15, President William Ruto announced a temporary cut in fuel VAT from 16% to 8% for three months and a KSh6.5 billion intervention to cushion households from high living costs. The measure was presented in Suneka as a response to elevated fuel prices linked to conflict in the Middle East.
