Maharashtra to set up River Rejuvenation Authority

On 2026-04-10, Maharashtra announced it was in the final stages of establishing a River Rejuvenation Authority to strengthen pollution control and enforce sewage-treatment rules. The move was announced by Environment Minister Pankaja Munde at a high-level review meeting in Pune and was linked to polluted rivers including the Indrayani and Pavana. The policy is intended to target untreated sewage discharges and related encroachments.
