Taiwan banks develop local AI to reduce reliance on foreign tech

On 2026-04-23, Taiwan's financial sector launched a joint project to develop a large language model tailored to local banking rules and practices. The initiative brings together 16 financial institutions under the Taiwan FinTech Alliance to pool data, funding, and technical talent and reduce reliance on foreign AI models. Officials said the first version should be ready by the end of the year.
