Guyana government to strengthen litter and noise nuisance laws

On 2026-04-18, the Government of Guyana, through Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall, said it was reviewing the Summary Jurisdiction Offences Act to strengthen littering and noise nuisance laws. The proposed changes would add new offences, higher penalties, prison time for repeat offenders, and community service. Nandlall said he had been instructed by the president to review the legal framework and make enforcement easier.
