Nigeria sets age limit for SIM card ownership

On 2026-04-17, the Nigerian Communications Commission proposed banning individuals under 18 from owning and registering SIM cards. The policy was presented as a child-protection and telecom-security measure tied to Nigeria's digital economy and NIN registration drive. Parents and guardians would still be able to register SIM cards on behalf of children.
