U.S. and Philippines launch major joint military drills with 17,000 troops

On 2026-04-20, the United States and the Philippines launched the Balikatan joint military exercise, one of their largest combat drills, involving more than 17,000 personnel. The exercise also included new full-time participants Japan and Canada and is set to last nearly three weeks across Philippine provinces near the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait.
