UK deploys military to deter Russian submarines targeting undersea cables

On 2026-04-08, the UK deployed naval vessels and a maritime patrol aircraft to monitor Russian submarines operating in and around British waters and to deter any attack on undersea cables and pipelines. British Defence Secretary John Healey said the submarines spent more than a month in the area earlier this year, but had not entered UK territorial waters. Norway also deployed maritime patrol and naval assets in response.
