AFN chief urges UN to back First Nations against B.C. Indigenous law changes

On 2026-04-21, Assembly of First Nations National Chief Cindy Woodhouse Nepinak asked the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues to support First Nations' opposition to British Columbia's planned changes to its Indigenous rights law. She urged the UN to condemn the province's 'regressive' decisions and said reconciliation requires good-faith negotiations with First Nations. The appeal was made in Ottawa.
