Muslim World League

The Muslim World League is an international Islamic non-governmental organization based in Mecca, Saudi Arabia that promotes the true message of Islam by advancing moderate values. According to political scientist Gilles Kepel, the Muslim World League was the first organized and systematic institution whose declared intent was to Wahhabize Islam globally to counteract the wave of socialist Arab Nationalists led by Nasser’s Egypt during the Arab Cold War. To achieve this, the organization deployed missionaries, circulated the writings of foundational thinkers like Ibn Taymiyya and Ibn al-Wahhab, and provided funds to construct mosques and support various Islamic organizations.
